Pressly Hover needs access to readable text so it can place one word beside your pointer. The app processes that text on the Mac where you read it.
Scope
This policy applies to Pressly Hover for Mac, the standalone macOS menu bar app published by Bill Ryan Cabral. It covers the app, paid license activation, and the Pressly Hover pages on this website.
The policy does not describe the separate Pressly app for iPhone and iPad. Links to third-party services lead to their own privacy policies.
The text you read
Pressly Hover uses macOS Accessibility permission to obtain readable text that the application under your pointer exposes. Pressly Hover processes the text in memory on your Mac and presents it one word at a time.
Pressly Hover does not upload paragraph text, clipboard text, cursor positions, reading progress, or the names of the apps you read from. The app has no Pressly cloud library.
Pressly Hover reads clipboard text only when you choose its clipboard-reading action.
Accessibility limits
Source apps decide which text they expose through macOS Accessibility. Pressly Hover may not read protected text, images, canvas content, or some PDFs.
You can revoke access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. Pressly Hover cannot read text from other apps after you revoke that permission.
Information stored on your Mac
Pressly Hover stores the following information on your Mac:
- Reading and appearance preferences in macOS user defaults.
- Trial start and last-seen dates, plus a random installation identifier, in the macOS Keychain and the app's Application Support folder.
- For an activated paid license: the license key, Lemon Squeezy activation instance identifier, licensed product and variant identifiers, and most recent validation date in the macOS Keychain.
Pressly Hover generates the random installation identifier. It does not read or transmit your Mac serial number, Apple Account, hardware UUID, advertising identifier, contacts, or location.
Keychain entries can remain after you delete the app. Pressly Hover uses them to remember the trial and paid license across reinstalls.
License activation and purchases
The seven-day trial runs on your Mac and requires no account. Pressly Hover contacts Lemon Squeezy's License API over HTTPS when you activate, validate, or deactivate a paid license.
A license request can include:
- The license key you enter.
- During activation, an installation label made from the random Pressly Hover installation identifier.
- During validation or deactivation, the activation instance identifier returned by Lemon Squeezy.
Lemon Squeezy can associate this information with the order and customer record created at checkout. Pressly Hover uses the response to confirm that the key belongs to Pressly Hover and remains active.
License requests contain no paragraph text, clipboard text, reading history, app list, cursor position, or reading preference.
Lemon Squeezy handles checkout, tax, payment, receipts, and license records under its own policies. Read its License API documentation and privacy policy.
Analytics
The Pressly Hover Mac app includes no advertising or analytics SDKs. It does not track you across apps or websites.
The Pressly website uses Vercel Web Analytics in production to measure page visits and link interactions. Website analytics do not receive text you read in the Mac app. Read Vercel's privacy policy for its service terms.
Retention and deletion
Local preferences and Application Support data remain until you remove them from your Mac. Trial state also remains in the macOS Keychain and can survive reinstallation.
Deactivating a paid license removes the saved paid-license record from the app's Keychain and asks Lemon Squeezy to remove that Mac's activation instance. Deactivation does not erase the purchase record.
Contact Pressly support to request help with purchase-related information. Payment providers may retain transaction records for tax, fraud prevention, accounting, or legal duties.
Children, changes, and contact
Bill offers Pressly Hover as a general productivity tool and does not direct it to children.
Pressly will post policy changes at this address and update the effective date. A material change will appear on the Pressly website before or when it takes effect, as applicable law requires.
